Pointer Input, Dimension Input and Dynamic Prompts

Today AutoCAD Tutorial: Introducing about Pointer Input, Dimension Input and Dynamic Prompts features in AutoCAD.

We can find between two indicate images. To display Pointer Input, Dimension Input and Dynamic Prompts functions from AutoCAD 2007 verion to current AutoCAD 2015 version. You can use setting in Dynamic Input feature in the Drafting Setting dialog box.

Step 1: At command line: Type DS > Enter.

AutoCAD will display Drafting Setting dialog box.

Step 2: Selecting Dynamic Input and setting as below indicated image.

Step 3: Click on Settings… button at Pointer Input. Setting as below picture and click on OK button.

Polar Fomat: Displays the tooltip for the second or next point in polar coordinate format. Enter a comma (,) to change to Cartesian format. (DYNPIFORMAT system variable).

Cartesian Format: Displays the tooltip for the second or next point in Cartesian coordinate format. Enter an angle symbol (<) to change to polar format. (DYNPIFORMAT system variable).

Relative Coordinates: Displays the tooltip for the second or next point in relative coordinate format. Enter a pound sign (#) to change to absolute format. (DYNPICOORDS system variable).

Absolute Coordinates: Displays the tooltip for the second or next point in absolute coordinate format. Enter an “at” sign (@) to change to relative coordinates format. (DYNPICOORDS system variable).

As Soon As I Type Coordinate Data: When pointer input is turned on, displays tooltips only when you start to enter coordinate data. (DYNPIVIS system variable).

When a Command Asks for a Point: When pointer input is turned on, displays tooltips whenever a command prompts you for a point. (DYNPIVIS system variable).

Always—Even When Not in a Command: Always displays tooltips when pointer input is turned on. ( DYNPIVIS system variable).

Step 4: Click on Settings…button at Dimension Input. Setting as below image and click on OK button

Show Only 1 Dimension Input Field at a Time: Displays only the length change dimensional input tooltip when you are using grip editing to stretch an object. (DYNDIVIS system variable).

Show 2 Dimension Input Fields at a Time: Displays the length change and resulting dimensional input tooltips when you are using grip editing to stretch an object. (DYNDIVIS system variable).

Show the Following Dimension Input Fields Simultaneously: When you are using grip editing to stretch an object, displays the dimensional input tooltips that are selected below. (DYNDIVIS and DYNDIGRIP system variables).

Resulting Dimension: Displays a length dimensional tooltip that is updated as you move the grip.

Length Change: Displays the change in length as you move the grip.

Absolute Angle: Displays an angle dimensional tooltip that is updated as you move the grip.

Angle Change: Displays the change in the angle as you move the grip.

Arc Radius: Displays the radius of an arc, which is updated as you move the grip.

Step 5: Go back Drafting Settings dialog, you click on OK button.

Step 6: Press F12 to Activate Dynamic Input or Click on Dynamic Input icon on screen.

In case you want to turn off a mode, just deselect that tag and vice versa. To confirm and close the dialog when finish settings, click OK.

Displaying parameters of pointer and drawing line will provide us current parameters so that we can calculate quickly or easily form the drawing. This method is one of many good tricks that you should learn for yourself to save working time and increase performance.

However, there are some disadvantages. If your computer has low configuration but installing high-version of AutoCAD, it will cause lag during drawing and zooming. If you see that lag, you’d better turn off this mode or read the tutorial AutoCAD is lagged to know how to solve this issue to increase computer performance.
